I have not been posting as much as I would like – even though I have not slowed down in my sewing! I’ve actually made quite a few outfits/items including a pair of shorts, a couple of summer tops and now I’m working on another pair of Ginger Jeans. My problem is I have been pretty lazy about taking pictures. Sometimes after I’m done making something – I am just DONE and don’t want to look at it anymore… other times I think I’ll take the picture when I wear it for real (i.e., presentable). And then I’ll forget. Whatever the reason/excuse I need to get better at taking the pictures.
I do have pictures of my latest make! WALLETS!! I’ve got a $hit ton of fabric leftover from my store and I’m bound and determined to use it – so I’ve been making items for the Holiday craft shows that are just around the corner! Here are all that I’ve made. I most likely won’t make anymore until I see how well they sell. I listed a few on my Etsy site – but I need to take more pictures and get the rest up.
Here are also pictures of the road trip I took last weekend down into Mt. Hood and then up along the Oregon coast. I have had Cape Disappointment on my ‘must see’ list for a long time (30+ years?) Even though it was foggy – it was worth the wait!
This week I spent a LOT of time fixing up Athena! After our “storm” last week I discovered that moisture has been making its way into the trailer though a side hatch door. The storage area accessible by the hatch door is under one of the twin beds in the back Well, moisture had no where to go except up – into the mattress. (I discovered it looking for one of the dogs toys).
One of the renovations I’ve been wanting to do is pulling out one of the beds and adding in more storage – so that is what I did. I pulled that sucker right out of there and put in a portable closet so I have more room to hang my clothes and one of these days I’ll make it to Ikea or Target to see if I can find a dresser or some other storage unit that is tall enough (counter height) so I can cut out fabric. Right now if I want to cut out anything I either do it on the floor or go to the ‘TV room’.
Anyway, once I pulled everything out, I had enough energy left over to put in a new shower faucet. What a FIASCO!!!!! It took me forever to pull the old faucet out – I swear that thing was welded in! I ended up having to cut the plastic pipes and reassemble the whole thing with ‘up-to-date’ fixings. But, four hours and three trips to Home Depot later – I have a new shower faucet and shower head! BOOM!
So remember when I was telling you how I have been working on using up my fabric stash. Well, I had this knit fabric that was kinda heavy that I can’t remember what project I had in mind when I bought in. After weeks of thinking about it I decided to make slacks since I can always use work and weekend slacks. I used Kwik Sew pattern 3115 which I’ve made plenty of times before – so much so that I’ve already added length and widened the band. All I had to do was cut and sew.
Turns out that for years I thought this fabric was black when actually it’s a deep dark blue! Ha!! I normally wear either black or gray pants (minimalism technique) so adding blue gives me one more option – and it’s a deep enough blue that I won’t have to try and mix and match tops.
I am really happy with the way these slacks turned out. I widened the waist band so it sits a little higher on the waist… and work appropriate. I’m tempted now to find more of this fabric and make another pair… but I have so many OTHER projects I want to get to. More next week!!!
A few months before I left Minnesota my sweet, sweet girl, Skilos passed away. I still can’t talk about her without crying – so this post is not about her. What is worse, my Fat Cat also passed away a couple of weeks before she did. I miss him too and still can’t talk about him without talking about Skilos (I got them as babies 2 weeks apart and they passed 2 weeks apart) But this post isn’t about him either.
This post is about my new dog, Grace!
After Leo and I moved into our apartment I started to feel really bad for him! He went from a house with 2 dogs, 2 boys, 1 cat and a big yard – to just him and I. I didn’t feel so bad while I wasn’t working – but once I started working he was all by himself in our apartment.
We walk everyday and on the weekends we go to the dog parks or hiking… but I still felt pretty bad for him. So I searched Craig’s List and found this sweet girl whose family felt she deserved a better life than what they could provide.
I met her and her dad at a dog park and it was love at first sight for me! She had never been to a dog park before so there was lots of barking and clinging to her dad. But I could tell she was a sweet heart and definitely deserved to have some fun in her life. She’s part Black Lab and Part ?? – but I think I see some Boston Terrier in her. She’s not as big as Leo – coming in at 49lbs, versus his 69lbs, but she’s the same age and I think makes a great companion for him.
The night I bought Grace home Leo was not happy! The only thing he liked about her was all her toys (which he set out to destroy one by one). But, he’s slowly coming around. This morning I caught him playing with her…. and tonight on our walk he fought off a small dog when it looked like Grace would need some help fending it off. (PSA: please put your dog on a leash if you can’t control them with voice commands).
Every day Grace’s little personality comes out. She is definitely a lover – LOVES to snuggle on my lap, if she can’t have the lap, she’ll snuggle up right next to me. She loves to give kisses and even though she’s not exactly thrilled with it… She appreciates my crochet skills!
