Keeping up with Bonnie

November is here and things are switching into high gear at the store.  However, before I forget AGAIN I want to introduce our next Customer of the Month.  This is Bonnie!!

I’ve been talking about Bonnie since I first met her a few months ago!  I love this lady – she is living proof that if you take the time for yourself you will have more energy, loose weight and feel better about yourself.   (Continue reading to find out her secret)

Take a good look at Bonnie, she looks incredible for a 20 year old, but can you believe she is 63?  I KNOW!!  When she told me how old she was I just about fell over!  She’s not only taken very care of herself, but her energy is through the roof!  She is so much fun to be around.

Bonnie signed up for one of Laura’s classes and the next day Laura was telling me all about how fun “Bonnie” was to have in her class.  Shortly after that Bonnie came in and scheduled some one-on-one time me with because she found a dress pattern and knew she would need help making it.  Over the course of the next few days Laura and I got to know Bonnie pretty well and let me tell you she is a force!  She rides her horses every morning, kayaks, knits, travels and went back to school at the age of 56 to become a surgical nurse.  The dress she is wearing in her picture was the one we worked on together and the one she wore for her dinner with President George Bush. (I could NOT wait for Bonnie to come in the next day and tell us all about that – and she did not disappoint!)

During one of our sessions I was especially tired and was half-way whining (okay, I was all the way whining) about how hard it was as a single mom and business owner to find the time to work out.  She, in no uncertain terms, told me to stop eating junk and find the time to work out!  I knew she was right!  I needed to make ME a priority so since that day, 7 weeks ago, I have been running every other day for 30 minutes and, not surprisingly, I have lost weight (10lbs), have more energy and WANT to eat right.   Now do you see why I love Bonnie to much?

Unfortunately for me, Bonnie and her husband travel to Florida during the winter, but before she left I asked her to answer a few questions,.  Here are her answers:

1.  So Bonnie, how long have you been sewing?
I have been sewing since August of 2011 when I took the first Apron Class from Sewtropolis.

2. Who taught you how to sew?
I learned how to sew at Sewtropolis!

3. What are some of your favorite things to make?
I love making apron and pillowcases!  They are fast and easy to make so I like them as I love to get results right away.  I’m going to try sewing hot pads to see if I like sewing them.

4. Everybody has a project that didn?t turn out quite like they expected ? what is yours?
I tried making a black wrap-dress and gave up halfway through.  I don’t like the way it looks when sewn on my machine, I’d rather try sewing it using a serger.

5. What is your favorite thing about sewing?

I love taking raw materials and making something out of it.  I can use my creative side with colors and texture of fabrics.

As of early October (before Bonnie left for Florida) she said she’s made about 20 aprons and 24 pillow cases (all the pillowcases were made within a week) .  She says she sews from 5:00 in the morning until 7:30 before her day starts.  It’s hard “Keeping up with Bonnie”!!
Thanks for all your motivation, Bonnie and we’ll see you when you get back!  Thanks again for agreeing to be our Customer of the Month!
