A couple of days ago I posted about choosing 12 unfinished projects for next year and working on just one a month until it was done. I’ve been slowly sorting through my projects and one I came across was a quilt I thought about making using the Prince Charming line of fabric I received in the store this summer. I was given the quilt pattern all I had to do was cut the fabric out and make the quilt. I got as far as cutting the fabric off the bolt. I think what stopped me from jumping all over making the quilt was that I wasn’t thrilled with the quilt pattern. It had lots of triangles and was nothing spectacular and if I’m going to spend time making triangles – the quilt better be spectacular!!
I knew when I came across the bag that if it was going to make the cut I had better come up with a spectacular project. And, as if the Universe heard me the very next day a customer came into the store and wanted me to look at a dress pattern that she had found on the Made by Rae Blog. I pulled up the site and helped the customer with picking out her fabric for the dress. As soon as she left I went back to the blog and found this:
Don’t you love it?? I do! And as soon as I saw it I knew that’s what I wanted to do with the Prince Charming fabrics I had. I had always thought a quilt would make a cool shower curtain, but I couldn’t figure out how you could make it and not have it weigh a ton (with the batting and backing pieces I imagined it would be way to heavy to hang on the shower rod). Solution: serge the pieces together so that there are no ‘raw’ edges to worry about! GENIUS!!! Especially since I have a serger in the studio!
I knew I could make the curtain in an afternoon, which in my mind justified crossing it off my list earlier rather than putting it in a bin for next year. Plus, I knew it would be really pretty in my bathroom and I didn’t want to wait another second to make it!
I cut my pieces into 8 1/2″ squares and serged them all together. It took 81 blocks total when I laid them out 9 across and 9 down. (the size of a standard shower curtain is 72″x72″) I hemmed the sides, top and bottom with a 1′ hem, then added button holes at the top for the hooks…. and voila!
Again – Don’t you LOVE it!!! I do! I haven’t bought a new shower curtain since we moved into the house – it was time. I still have a few scraps left over, which I think may end up either wall art or math mat. SOON!

this is just lovely!! I love mixing patterns and Sewtropolis has such a great assortment. So sad that I had to dash before having a chance to shop today. Great class! I will be stopping back sometime this week when I have an art delivery to The Linden Tree. Thank you again for a fabulous class and for the inspiring projects you show on your blog! Pace.
um….that would be PEACE,,,,although maybe PACE would be more in keeping with you getting all your projects off “the list”…hehe
